Sports Career --Vijay Kumar Malhotra


Sports Career

Professor Malhotra is a renowned sports official and famous patron not only in India but the world over. His dedication to development of Sports in India has led to his holding important positions in apex bodies in the world of National and International sports. He has illustriously performed the following roles in the field of sports:






Leader of the Indian squad for the Teheran Asian Games, 1974.

Leader of the Indian squad for the Edmonton Commonwealth Games, 1978.

Indian observer at almost all Asian, Commonwealth and Olympic Games.

First Chairman of the 1982 Asian Games Steering Committee.

Chairman, Governing Body of the Indira Gandhi Institute of Physical Education and Sports Sciences.

President of the All India Council of Sports with the status of a Cabinet Minister under the NDA government from 1999-2004.

He has been solely responsible for giving impetus and energy to the development of the game of Archery in India. He mooted the idea of discovering natural talent for Archery amongst tribal populations in India. His guidance and involvement in this sport has led to India being placed amongst the top ranking countries in the world in Archery today. He is the president of the Archery association of India, and founder president of the Asian Archery Federation as well as the Commonwealth Archery Foundation.

He was the foremost member of the team from Indian Olympic Association which campaigned hard and brought the 2010 Commonwealth Games to Delhi. He is also a member of the Executive Board Commonwealth Games 2010.

Even as the Commonwealth games deadlines are drawing closer, and a great number of projects are behind schedule, Prof. Malhotra’s vast experience in sports administration will come handy and it is a matter of certainty that as Chief Minister he can put the projects back on track.
